BIOGRAPHY

Lauren Michalak is returning to James Madison College in August 2023 as the college's field experience coordinator. She earned her B.A. from Michigan State University with dual majors in political theory and constitutional democracy, and history.

Michalak earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in early American history from the University of Maryland, College Park. Her dissertation, “‘The Mobs All Cry’d Peace With America’: The Gordon Riots and Revolution in England and America,” examines Anglo-Atlantic revolutionary politics during the American Revolution by exploring the connections between the 1780 Gordon Riots in London and American Patriot and Loyalist ideology and rhetoric. Prior to entering graduate school, she worked for the Michigan Senate for five years as a constituent relations aide and committee clerk.

As a field experience coordinator, Michalak assists students in fulfilling their field experience requirement by providing programming and advising on opportunities and requirements. She regularly meets with students and answers their inquiries about their options for the field experience requirement, including internship opportunities, education abroad programs and completing a senior honors thesis.
