Field Experience

[Start using the NEW Field Experience Database]

The Field Experience Database provides a quick reference for all internships approved by the James Madison College Field Experience Office. You will find here contact names and addresses for each internship. You can also search by location, name of organization, and keywords.

This database supplements, but does not replace the more detailed files available in the Field Experience Office. Please come in to the Field Experience Office (355 South Case Hall) to browse those files, and to obtain detailed contact information and position descriptions for each internship. Moreover, it is essential that you meet with the Director of Field Experience at the beginning of your search for internships, and before applying to any of the organizations you find here. The Director can help you think through the kinds of internships in which you might be interested, clarify the process of application (including critiquing draft resumes and cover letters), and discuss the academic requirements of the Field Experience (including course enrollments and the papers that are involved).

If you wish to apply for internships not listed in our files (or on this database), you will need to discuss that with the Director of Field Experience, to ensure those internships meet James Madison College guidelines. Please bring to that discussion detailed information on the internships in which you are interested. Please also refer to Appendix B of Field Experience: A Guide ("Developing your own Field Experience") for general guidelines.

To schedule an appointment to meet with the Director of Field Experience, please call the Field Experience Office at 517-353-6757. Plan to meet with the Director at least a full semester to semester-and-a-half prior to the period in which you wish to undertake the internship.
